Jonathan Ataria

Composer, multi-instrumentalist and music scholar

Jonathan holds a B.Sc. in Musicology and Computer Science from Tel-Aviv University, an M.A. in Ethnomusicology from Tufts University, and currently completing an M.Mus. in Composition for Media at the Jerusalem Academy fro Music and Dance. Jonathan creates engaging and innovative works that combine contemporary composition with traditional musics of diverse origins. His portfolio includes Chamber Music, Film Scores and Music for Dance, while ranging from experimental Electronic Music to traditional Arabic Music.

In his enthnomusicological research, Jonathan studied Text and Music Interplay in the Sephardic Piyut in Israel, while informing his compositional and performative practices with the cultural and historical context of the traditional Judeo-Arabic Piyut music. Jonathan also plays in multiple ensembles, teaches music, and develops world-music informed AI tools for musicians at Kumbengo.
